The upper back is often sore due to a muscular imbalance, quite often linked to prolonged poor postures or over training larger muscle groups. This can often be accompanied by a stiffness in the thoracic region.
Scoliosis refers to a sideways curvature of the spine. these are usually diagnosed in childhood if they are a true curve of the spine. Muscular imbalances can cause the appearance of a scoliosis.
The scapular or shoulder blade sometime has excessive movement this is due to weakness or under-activation in the subscapular muscle. A winging scapula alone is not a in issue unless it starts to cause pain or limits movements.
A Cloward presentation is pain that has referred from a cervical vertebrae. The most common one is symptoms at the lower edge of the shoulder blade. This is the most common referral pattern for pain coming from the C6-7 disk.
