This is not a muscular skeletal condition and if suspected you should go to A&E as soon as possible.
DVT symptoms are a swollen and red calf with pain.
These present as a pain over 5 cm of the lower leg usually just to the edge of the bone rather than on it.
A stress fracture will present over the bony area with a single sharp point of pain. There maybe pain radiating over a larger area with tenderness but there will be one point that's worse than the rest.
The level of a strain can range from a slight pull to a full rupture. Normally this happens when the calf is over extended, this is mostly during sports such as running or football.
Depending on the grade of tear there can be varying amounts of bruising and swelling.
There are two types of compartment syndrome Chronic and Acute.
A Chronic compartment syndrome will usually present around the same time during exercise, most commonly running. it will usually feel like a burning, bursting or swelling sensation in the leg. Once the symptoms have started they will progressively get worse as exercise continue but symptoms will settle with rest.
An acute compartment syndrome is serious as the swelling causes a compression on the nearby nerves and vessels. if the pressure is not relived quickly permanent damage can occur.
