The carpel tunnel is a space created between fibrous and bony structure in the wrist. Multiple tendons and the medium nerve pass through this area. Once irritation occurs here the inflation can cause compression through this space causing issues to all the structures there.
A repetitive strain injury comes from repeated use, this can be from work or from a hobby and is treated as a tendinopathy.
This condition presents as a locking normally in the index finger. This is due to an irritation of the tendon sheath causing locking. with time it can also cause stiffness of the finger preventing full range of movement.
Dupuytren's contractures cause the fingers in the hand to become struck in a flexed position. This condition requires surgical intervention usually.
This presents on the thumb side of the wrist. It is an irritation of the tendons that go in to the thumb.
Following a fall or twist to the wrist the ligaments within can be damaged. There are lots of ligaments in the wrist and hand causing pain or instability.
The wrist is a common place for fractures following a fall as people want to put there hand out to save them. If you suspect a fracture you should go to A&E for a scan.
